Vickery sank on August 15, 1889, after striking Rock Island Shoal at the entrance to the American Narrows off Fishers Landing.  A three-masted schooner built in 1861 for the Great Lakes/St. Lawrence commercial transport industry, she is a tangible link to age of sail in this historic waterway.
