About Us

Diving With Purpose

TIDA’s mission is to safeguard the ecological integrity, cultural heritage, and recreational value of the St. Lawrence River and its tributaries. We accomplish this through responsible diving practices, systematic underwater cleanup operations, the preservation and documentation of historic shipwrecks, and citizen-science monitoring programs that support environmental research. By engaging divers, residents, visitors, and partner organizations, we aim to enhance public understanding, protect fragile ecosystems, promote scuba diving, and ensure that the river remains a clean, vibrant, and historically rich resource for generations to come.

Our Story

The founding members of the alliance are experienced divers with hundreds of hours spent beneath the surface of the St. Lawrence River.  They and their friends have a deep love for this unique natural wonder we call the 1000 Islands.  Our members have worked together and independently to remove trash and debris from the river and to maintain and monitor historic shipwrecks.  The decision to form the alliance - a non-profit 501(c)(3) corporation - was made with hopes of enlisting even more divers and expanding our work to education and promoting the unique diving opportunities of the region.  We hope that you'll join us in our work, consider a small donation, or just come with us on fun dives, as we explore, restore, and protect the river we love.
